What Not to Wear

You hate your thighs.
So what?
You have love handles.
Doesn't even matter
Think you have big arms.
No problem.
Girls, we are here to tell you that the clothing you put on your body can make all the difference in the world in how you feel about yourself and how you appear to the world.
Try our tricks to look leaner, feel sexier, and accentuate the figure you were born with in ALL the right places!

A Message From the Bagel:
If you haven't noticed, I have always had an hour glass shape. My measurements are 34' 27' 34'. With an hour glass shape your bust and hip measurements are usually proportional. So if you feel like you are an hour glass I have some tips for you!

1. Before you do anything, Look at yourself butt naked in the mirror. Realize this is who you are. No matter how much weight you lose, you can't change your bones! Think of your body as a canvas. Now you wouldn't paint this BEAUTIFUL canvas with crappy finger paints would you? No, you would use the best paints possible to paint a gorgeous you!

2. Next start with the right undergarments, PLEASE. I hate bouncy boobs! Go to Dillard's and get fitted for the right bra that is for you. Not everyone can wear Victoria Secret Bras, I can't. The right bra can sometimes take away a few pounds. Also, I am a HUGE fan of Spanxs! I know many girls who are super skinny to voluptuous who wear these. They smooth out all of the pudges and frumpiness in a tight fitting dress. So ladies have no shame with wearing the gerdle!

3. For casual out fits stick with basics. For us, usually less is more. I like to wear basics and pump up the volume with hott shoes and big jewelry. I go for skinny jeggings and simple oversized top or the basic loose black tank. I try to keep it tight on the bottom and loose on the top. I found that jeggings are love handle friendly. Hour glass girls should stay away from waist bands (this will give a grandma bladder). Ususally straight lines are better because we have so much shape naturally, that it does need accentuating, especially in the wrong places. If you do go with lines, go for an empire waist. It wont make you look preggers and it conceals the belly.

4. For a night out on the town or date nights with the fella, go for the tight fitting body con dress or the tailored pencil skirt. Hourglass figures need to show the shape, because we are naturally proportional.  The fitted dress needs to have simple lines, but make sure it fits perfect (think Marilyn, not Lil'Kim). If the dress shows the bagels and the rolls, that is when THOSE undergarments I told you about come in handy.  As for the pencil skirt, it gives a more professional look. Pencils skirts are high waisted, so pair them with a belt and sinch in the waist. Top off the look with a hott blazer  with some serious shoulder pads. The shoulder pads will line up with the hips and the belt pulls it all in the middle.   Remember when you are an hour glass its all about flattering those natural curves.

Outfits to stay away from:
-A-Line this is a terrible look for us because it accentuates all the wrong places, its just bad!
- The baby doll look: usually there is a seam right above the boobs...you will look preg. Dont do it!
- Low waisted jeans- go for it... if you want to have back fat!
-Peek a boo shoulders: dumb look! you might as well be a football player because you look like a line backer. (Go look at J Lo's Oscar Dress...see what I mean)
- If its trendy it probably won't look good. Hour Glasses need to wear timeless and classic looks (think Marilyn Monroe when dressing)

Outfits that must be in the closet:
-Anything with simple lines and seams
-Anything that is tailored: suits, slacks, skirts, blazers
-Basic tees and tanks (loose not tight, I like Target's V Neck pocket Ts)
-Jeggings (Target has the best)
-Dress that are fitted
- Looks with a deep neck line, but big boob friendly or something that falls off the shoulder. This will take the eyes away from the ta-tas and your gorgeous neck, collar bone, and shoulders will steel the show
-Bras that fit! No one likes saggy boobs! Invest in Spanx!
My favorite stores: Express, Cache, Bebe, TJ Maxx, Target, The Limited

A message from the Muffin:
Well obviously, I'm the complete black and white, night and day OPPOSITE! The muffin is here to tell you to dress nothing like the bagel if you were born and blessed with a wonderful set of short legs, curvy hips, and small shoulders-- embrace it!

1. Being a muffin is a beautiful thing. Most muffins are petite in size, with a few lovely lady lumps along the way. Nothing is wrong with that. Nothing. And on a side note, if you think you are a muffin/bagel mix...a magel..then simply combine both of our ideas for the perfect look!

2. Since we usually are shorter and generally have shorter legs that may or may not be "thicker", then as a general rule of thumb, aim to keep all skirts, dresses, & shorts ABOVE the knee and obey that "fingertip rule"!! Anything below the knee will cut your cute little body in half and POOF you are 3 inches shorter than you already were.  This works out great for those of you who love to online shop like me, because this means you can order all those cute dresses and shorts from Forever 21 that you love without having to worry about them being too short!

And this bring me to point number 3. High waisted anything is a must for those of you with a short waist like me. How do you know if you have a short waist?
Well, answer this: Do the widths of both of your hands laid side by side against each other take up your entire tummy space?
If yes, then welcome to my world. You have a short waist. For a casual look, try high waisted shorts with a tank tucked in. Unlike the bagel, we are all about the shoulders! Show them off. When wearing skinny jeans, stick to the actual JEAN material and stay as far away as possible from jeggings. Jeggings will cling to your thighs and accentuate everything in all the wrong places! With your skinny jeans, maker sure to pair it with a flowy shirt that falls below the zipper of the pants to take some of the focus off of your midsection and more focus to your upper body and gorgeous face!

4. For a night out with your girls or even dinner with your boo, a bodycon skirt that comes up to the belly button paired with a flowy top is always a good idea or a sweet flowy dress (as long as its above the knee!)

Items that should NEVER be in your closet:
-Turtlenecks: If you have a short upper body, turtlenecks literally make you look like a turtle living in an extra large shell. Necks ARE necessary!!
-Jeggings: Take one look at Kim Kardashian from the rear in a pair of these and you'll see why I say this. NOT flattering.
-Straight dresses: Yeah, those cheap dresses from Charlotte Russe and Body Shop that fit tight all the way down without a break in them...never ever buy them. They accentuate the worst parts of our shaped body. Just don't do it.
-Capri Pants: Besides the fact they were only awesome when Lizzie McGuire and Backstreet Boys were...these pants CUT YOU OFF! They break our "Above the knee" rule. If you have them, give them away. You either wear jeans or shorts, there is no in between for us muffins.
**Make sure your pants FIT, do not hang on to pants that are too small!! Nothing is more flattering than a pair of pants or shorts with the perfect fit. If your sides spilleth over...do not wear.**

Items that should be in your closet:
-Puff shoulder shirts: For the petitely-shouldered, this creates a balance from hips to shoulder. Do not take it to the Ga-Ga level..just keep it sweet with a little poof.
-High waisted anything: Refer to the column above. Just makes you look good!
- Empire waist dresses: Make sure the elastic hits right under the bust and not around the waist! The higher the empire the longer and slimmer the torso appears!
My favorite stores: Forever21(online), UrbanOG.com, KnowStyle, TJMaxx, Charlotte Russe

From the Bagel:

Squat Press: this works the glutes, quads, abs, shoulders
Use 3-8lbs, 3 sets with 15 repetitions

Meal of the Day:
- For lunch I had a "little" veggie tray. Yes they sell individual veggie trays at Walmart for less than 2 dollars. My tray consisted of baby carrots, broccoli, ranch dip, a slice of cheese, and a small packet of almonds. Then I had an apple and dipped it in peanut butter. Yes I eat peanut butter, but in moderation.

Hot Girl Tip of the Day:

The BIGGER THE HAIR, the closer to God! Nothing says "hot" than a girl with gorgeous, curly, teased hair i.e.: Gretchen Christine, from Real Housewives from OC (google her). When you are a thick girl, remember to balance (proportion), even when it comes to your hair. I would look so weird if I walked in the bar with a cute outfit on (that followed my rules, see above) and had drab, flat hair. Sooo Un Proportional!  Invest in some hot rollers. Get a U Curl. Buy some weave. Watch youtube videos on how to tease. Do It! and quit flat ironing your hair, it will eventually fall out if you keep using that thing! Also "fixing" your hair does not include pulling it back with a bobby pin.

Trust me if you get the stank eye from strangers when you are working your hot outfit and your fixed doo, just feeling like Beyonce, its because they are jealous of your confidence! Its all about the confidence, ladies. Believe in yourself...bump the haters!
Remember, jealousy is the ugliest trait... now do the pretty girl rock.

Sweet Cheats and Chocolate Treats

You've been committed to eating healthy all week when all of the sudden your evil sweet tooth seeks
revenge...
Trust us, we know the feeling.
Like any normal woman on the planet, we love our
SWEETS!
It's that 10 o'clock at night-gotta-have-it craving and it's not going to go away.
Here are a few confessions and solutions to keep that sweet tooth happy without completely engorging yourself in thousands of unwanted calories.

Rule #1: Allow yourself ONE Sweet Cheat
A girl's gotta stay sane, and if your feel the craving, try as long as you can to hold out until the end of the week and give into it. Now this does NOT mean that you can go down to the cupcake buffet (does that even exist? hmm) and go crazy eating everything in sight. This is ONE meal. ONE, people!!

Rule #2: FRO-YO is ALWAYS a GOOD IDEA
Frozen yogurt is a great way to convince yourself that your Sweet Cheat isn't a completely bad idea. Add your favorite fruity toppings and yogurt chips to really seal the deal...
but even if you don't choose the fruit, we don't judge. Always say YES to frozen yogurt as a "cheat" date!

Rule #3: WeekENDS DON'T have to un-do Your WEEK
Seems like all things healthy go out of the window when the weekend hits and your friends all want to hang out because that means...restaurants!
Restaurants do have lots of tempting foods that are filled with our enemy, the Carb & his partner, the Calorie!!
Now if you haven't already indulged in your cheat meal for the week, then I don't see any harm done in a cheeseburger and some fries if that's what you fancy, but we are here to tell you that there are actually healthy options hidden on that restaurant menu!
Always go for grilled chicken and veggies or any type or grilled fish! Outback has an AMAZING salmon. I promise you'll live without the blooming onion, go for a salad with a light dressing instead.
Sushi is also a great option BUT FRIED SUSHI DOES NOT COUNT!!!!
Always go for the lean sea creatures- tuna, salmon, crab...anything without the word "Tempura"
Choose wisely when you are out and about and know that anything can be okay in MODERATION!

Here's a list of some of our favorite chocolately treats that us AUSkinnyGirls occasionally sneak into our healthy lifestyles:
 TCBY!

150 Calorie Warm Delight MINIS!
JUST EAT ONE

Sugar Free Jello Pudding Packs

DIET Hot Chocolate

Special K Chocolatey Delight
Eat with skim/almond milk

*A sweet treat that isn't chocolate:
FROZEN GRAPES!! Take a bag full of grapes and pop em' in the freezer for a frozen treat that'll satisfy that pesky sweet tooth

A Message from the Muffin:

Workout tip of the day:
When I do use weights, I'm all about targeting those love handles (obliques) and lower abs.
This exercise is simple but effective and can even be done while watching your favorite TV show or before you go to bed.
Try this move to blast that annoying pudge around your waist and get that beautiful hourglass figure!

Step 1) Start out with whatever size weight you want. I choose 8 :)
Step 2) Stand with your feet about shoulder-width apart and hold the weight at your side.
Step 3) Slower lower the weight down your side, giving a slight crunch or bend in your side.
*Use your obliques (or sides) in this exercise, NOT your arm!
Step 4) Keep lowering the weight until you are down to knee-cap level.
Your obliques should be completely engaged.
Step 5) SLOWLY roll yourself back up using those side muscles.
It should feel like a sit up for your side!!

For this exercise, do 20-30 reps and 3 sets.

Meal of the Day:
Breakfast: I love a green energy smoothie for breakfast or after a workout!! Everyone always tries to judge me when I walk around with this green blended concoction but I promise they are so nutritious and delicious! I like to blend a banana, a tablespoon of Hersheys naturally sweetened cocoa powder, a spoonful of peanut butter, a scoop of protein, and a handful of either fresh Kale greens or Spinach greens to make a Peanut Butter and AMAZING smoothie thats packed with energy, protein, and vitamins to keep me going throughout the day. All the other ingredients take over the greens-- you can't even taste them! Don't knock it till ya try it!

Hot Girl Tip of the Day:
Its all about POWER of the pose! With a swing of the hips you could go from a size 10 to a size 2.
This is a Home-Town Pageant Girl Secret that has been passed down to us, now we want to share our picture posing secrets with you.
1. Its all in the foot work. You need to put all of your weight on your back foot and have it facing in the other direction of your body.
2. Take the other foot and make a T shape. You might feel a little awkward
3. Turn the hips to the side...away from the camera
4. Turn the upper body towards the camera, Square off the shoulders (don't round, you want to show off your beautiful collar bone), put one hand on the hip and throw back the elbow.
5. Show that GORGEOUS SMILE!

You just went from this....  To this...

You are now HOT, CONFIDENT and SKINNY!
Remember,You Can Always Fool A Camera!
*Hint: Even though those heels are a total B word, they elongate the body and show off all your curvy muscles in those legs of yours!

Microwavin' Mommas

We sure hope grandmas old tale about standing too close to the microwave will cook your insides isn't true..
Or that the next front page headline won't be on how microwaved meals are being linked to cancer..
Because our blog today is about what we like to eat and how we like to cook it and its all through one glorious man-made machine--
the handy, dandy, MICROWAVE! I mean, we microwave EVERYTHING. Which brings us to our topic for today...Microwaving Meals.
We like to call ourselves the...
 Microwavin' Mommas
When you are two college roommates who are broke, at the library all the time, or who are never at home because you are on campus till 9 o'clock at night, you will learn that the microwave will save your life..and your stomach! If you thought we would be talking about grilling and give all these fabulous grill recipes, well sorry, we're not. We love grilled food, but we leave that up to our boyfriends. Just because we microwave all the time, doesn't mean we are sitting around microwaving pizza rolls, Lean Cuisines(don't eat--too much sodium!), or Hot Pockets. We are probably the healthiest microwavers ever!
So we want to share you all our secrets and photos of our healthy and delicious microwavable meals...that sometimes even resemble Chinese take out!

Breakfast: Oatmeal and Canadian/Turkey Bacon/Egg Whites
Oatmeal, especially if you buy the weight control brand, is full of FIBER. FIBER is your friend, especially in the morning!
*Hint: Add a dash of Splenda Brown Sugar and Splash of Almond Milk and it's almost like you're eating a warm, delicious cinnamon roll

Turkey/Canadian Bacon is full of PROTEIN and has LESS FAT! It's super easy to make and you're not having to worry about getting popped with hot grease.

Who would have thought? Eggs can be cooked just as good in the microwave!
Girls on the go do NOT have time to pull out the frying pan and whip up some fancy kind of gourmet eggs. Simply spray a microwave safe bowl with cooking spray, pour in your egg whites (the ones shown are our fave) add a little cheese, some protein (turkey or turkey bacon) and pop it in the microwave for about a minute, then mix it up and then for about 30 more seconds and Voila! Scrambled eggs.

Lunch/Dinner: Pre- Cooked Chicken,  Pre-cooked Fish, Steam Fresh Vegetables,
This is great for the girl-on-the-go. You can find this at Wal-Mart in the poultry/freezer sections. It only takes two and a half minutes to cook and then BAM! You have delicious grilled chicken with grill marks and everything. Don't even NEED a man to make you chicken this good! Also, the pre-cooked fish is great too! The Steam Fresh Veggies are Fabulous. You can buy the individual veggies or the larger bags that you can save for later. You can buy the seasoned or unseasoned. The possibilities are endless.
*Hint: Eat your chicken with Ken's Light Honey Mustard or Cattlemen's Tangy Gold Barbecue Sauce. Also Ms. Dash's Lemon Pepper Seasoning and Creole Seasoning goes great with your veggies. Do not use a condiment that has more than 80 Calories per 2tbsp per serving.

Dinner:  Chicken or Fish, Sweet Potato, Minute Rice, Steam Fresh Veggies, and a Vidallia Onion
When you are trying to loose weight, you have to get crafty! There are sooo many microwavable options to choose from and still eat healthy. We like to make rice bowls and think we are eating Hibachi food from a fancy Chinese restaurant.  First cook your microwavable chicken and cut it into little pieces. Then cook your steamed veggie bag of choice (if you cook a larger bag only use about 1 cup for this recipe, if you use individual size use the whole thing), and last cook your Uncle Ben's Minute Brown Rice. Dump everything in one bowl..even sprinkle in a LITTLE cheese if you'd like and TA-DAH, you have a rice bowl! If you feel like being more fancy, cook your microwavable Salmon, with your seasonings. Then cook Uncle Ben's steam rice (comes in a ton of flavors).Cook a microwavable steamer Sweet Potatoes (find these in the veg. isle next to the raw potatoes, they are already wrapped in cellaphane, takes about six minutes to cook and add Splenda brown sugar and I Can't Believe Its Not Butter for taste and only costs about 99cent). Now for our favorite...Vidallia Onions! These are super easy to microwave. Peel the top layer off of the onion and core out the top center of the onion by marking an X on it's head. Place a boyon cube where you cored out the onion. Next place the onion in a deep dish microwave-safe bowl with a little bit of water in the bowl. Cover the top of the bowl in cellaphane and cook for 4 minutes. Delicious!

<3 Muffin & the Bagel

Now that you know our microwavin' secrets...it's now time to hear from the Muffin and Bagel about workout tips, hot girl tips, meals and our AU Skinnygirl Pics of the day.

THE BAGEL:
Workout Tip of the Day:
Today I want to provide workout tips about the arms. You can use weights from 3lbs-8lbs or water bottles :) This exercise focuses on those flabby triceps. There are three options to this work out: beginner, medium, and advanced.
Meal of the Day:
Breakfast- egg omelet, protein shake, and an apple. My egg omelet is made from Southwestern Style Egg Beaters. I add a one strip of Turkey Bacon and a handful of Spinach to the omelet. Then I add salsa for taste. My protein shakes consists of chocolate whey protein, frozen strawberries, and almond milk (I only drink these after a work out, which I work out before breakfast). Last but not least, I have delicious gala apple.
Hot Girl Tip of the Day:
Hot girls don't drink fattening beer like Budweiser, we drink Mic Ultra. Also we don't drink sugary cocktails like a Sex on the Beach. We drink Vodka with Water and add a crystal light packet to our drink OR we go with Skinny Girl Cocktails by Bethany Frankel, they are the bomb.com"The lady knows how to cocktail"
And please always remember: HOT GIRLS, PLEASE DRINK IN MODERATION ("that girl"at the bar who had too much to drink is not cute!)
With love and War Eagle, AK :)

Now for.. AU Skinnygirl Pic of the Day:
Now these are real photos! These are just from beginning of the summer to the end of the summer, working on getting past those plateaus to reach our final goal weight!

One Size Does NOT Fit ALL

You flip through your Cosmo, turn on the TV, scroll through your Instagram..
it seems like everyone has the same figure-- long waisted, long legs, with a natural 6-pack slapped on to their stomach.
Well we are here to tell you there are people that exist in the world that aren't made out of that cookie cutter.
We've had to sit back our whole lives and watch our peers--who have all coincidently had bottomless pits for stomachs and never had to worry about gaining weight--eat meals upon meals at drive-thru restaurants, while we snacked on carrots and granola bars. As soon as a holiday hit and we indulged in ONE giant meal we'd come back 8 pounds heavier...and our peers??
Still all of 90 pounds.
Talk about frustrating!

A Message from the BAGEL:

I have received numerous questions about: What are doing?  What diet are you on?  Of course, I reply back and say that I am on The Pink Method. This program is amazing and I feel so good about myself, but this program and pretty much all programs are not meant for everyone. People, "One size DOES NOT fit all!" Since I was 14 I have had a trainer, counted calories, Weight Watchers, Atkins Diet and The Dukan Diet. They all worked for some time, but I was miserable and I always hit that plateu.
So, I want to explain a few things that I have encountered on my journey of weight loss:
- I hate to say it weight loss depends on that stupid thing called a Metabolism! It took me 7 years to figure out what got mine going, which brings me to my next point...
- Diet is everything, not exercise. Exercise sculpts the body and your healthy eating habits support your metabolism, which will give you the fuel to blast the fat in your exercise routine.
-Just because you don't have a work out buddy doesn't mean you should skip out on your exercise routine. Sage likes to run, I can't because I have overuse injuries. Sage doesn't like to lift weights because she says they make her look bulky. We still exercise though.
- Measurements are more important than the numbers on the scale.
- I like working out at home. I don't have to worry about creepy guys checking me out, contracts, or THAT Workout Queen Princess. When I work out at home I can wear a sports bra, booty shorts, work out on my own time, and be my own Workout Queen Princess. Plus this makes the ball in my court. Which brings me to my next point...
- DO THIS FOR YOURSELF! Until now I always had someone checking on my eating habits or reminding me to go to the gym. Now I do this for myself! My workout is my "ME" time. As women, we do so much for other people. So allow yourself an hour a day and treat yourself with a workout and keep up the healthy eating habits. This is a much better choice than a pedicure or a slice of cake. ITS ALL ABOUT YOU.
-AK

A Message from the Muffin:

As for me and my muffin-top, I have tried P-90X, Insanity, and endless hours spent in a gym. I am not Tyra Banks in height and weight lifting turns me into the Michelin man.
NOT CUTE.
The main question I've gotten since our last post is "what is your weekly exercise routine?"
Now this may not work for everyone, but for me, simple has worked best, especially since I have no money to be spending every month on a gym membership.
4-5 times a week I run. Honestly, my dog is my motivator. He gets SO bored and I know he has to get exercise, so it forces me to get exercise. I have a route on the sidewalk on my street that is about 2-2.5 miles that has a couple of good hills and makes me break a good sweat and lasts 30-35 min.
For those living in the 21st century with me that use iPhone or have an iPod, I HIGHLY suggest the Nike+GPS app if you are going to do this right! It maps your runs, tells you calories burned, gives you your pace, cheers you on...I love it.
Get your iTunes or Pandora going and turn up your favorite fast-pace music to get ready to run!!
Now, like I mentioned before, I didn't start out running like the Roadrunner. I started out walking, at a very slow pace, and I would set running goals for myself. I would see a mailbox ahead and say to myself "OK If I can just run to that mailbox" and once I made it to that mailbox without killing over..I'd walk a little bit and set a new goal, until one day I found myself running the whole time.
I noticed a change in my body almost immediately. Physically and emotionally.
Running lets go of the stress and lets go of the fat!!
Running has become my therapy. I find it helpful to find a running buddy, whether you make it your competition, your motivation, or your accountability..it just helps...even if it is your dog.
I do not do any extra weight lifting, yet running tightens up everything!
Occasionally, as in twice a week, I do a 15 min ab video or do ab exercises which I will be showing everyone in the posts to come, as well as the foods I eat on a normal day and even sweet cheat treats that won't completely ruin a diet.
Losing weight IS possible, just have to find what works for YOU!

Welcome to the Bakery

From Hefty's to Hotties, welcome to our real-deal journey of losing weight.
No, we have never and probably will never wear size 0 jeans.
And no, we didn't "get fat" just because we drank too much in college...
or ate too much McDonalds...
or drank too many soft drinks.
Our story of weight loss has been over 6 years battling against the cursed genetics that wanted us to be fat.
We refuse to let them win.

Our friendship began in 8th grade homeroom and has blossomed into roommates at Auburn University.
We have been dedicated and in this together to become the CURVY, but fit girls we deserve to be.
We hope our stories will inspire other people out there who weren't "born skinny" like us
and maybe even give you helpful healthy tips towards your future.
This isn't going to be glamorous.
This IS real.

This is the story of how we went from this:

To this:

Meet The Muffin

Hi, I'm Sage and I am studying to become a Speech Language Pathologist at Auburn University...I'm in my senior year...I'm obsessed with my golden retriever...and  I am the so called "muffin". When I call myself "The Muffin", I am referring to my body literally as a muffin-like shape. You have a short, roundish top half that folds over on all sides onto a stalky base. I have battled with weight loss my entire life. Literally. I was born a cute, 6 pounds and then..BAM I was 100 pounds. Ok, so maybe not that literally but I do know that there are only a handful of pictures of me in a cute stage before the pounds packed on at a very young age. My sweet mom always tried to reassure me that I wasn't the only chunky person in my family when I started to feel down and out next to my beautiful, 5'7" green-bean sisters...but somehow it never worked. I became angry at the genetics that made me the muffin I was. It wasn't that I was eating bags of chips on the daily or submerging my self in a sugar coma...it was just me. It was how my body wanted to be, but not how I wanted my body. I tried a lot of different things to lose weight but always ended up feeling disappointed in myself. My body just wouldn't budge. Finally, during my senior year of high school when I weighed in at my heaviest--160 pounds with a height at 5'3"-- I decided to really get committed and fight against the pudge. It WAS going to leave after 18 years of hanging out around my waist. At first I got a trainer, she was the one who made me passionate about working out. I just met with her a couple days a week and she showed me that losing weight was possible for me. After I figured out how to work out on my own, I ditched the training and picked up running...I've decided its an all over best work out for my body. I started out slow, exploring new routes around my town, and eventually I was running 3 miles+ with a new found confidence. The weight by no means fell off, in fact I'm still working at it. I now weigh in at an average 130 pounds and hope to lose a little more. It's taken me nearly 5 years to lose 30 pounds but it's worth the wait! I don't look at my meals as a "diet" but as a way of life. Diets are so short term. I eat healthy and if I want a treat every now and then, I have a treat! Simple as that. I hope by having this blog and telling my story of lifelong battle with weight loss that I can 1) represent for the curvy girls because I will ALWAYS have thick hips and 2) show that GENES don't have to determine your JEAN size. Little bit corny? Maybe, but true.
In the blogs to come I'll be sharing some of my favorite meals bought on a real broke college girl budget, so stay tuned :)

Meet The Bagel

Well HELLO and WAR EAGLE! My name is Anne-Kathryn (or AK) and I am the so called "bagel". That perfectly round, hard, sometimes celluliteish, pouch that incircles the belly button. This is what I like to call the bagel. I have been carrying this bagel since third grade! That is some really old fat! Well for starters I would like to talk about myself (this is kind of a hobby). I am a college student majoring in education. I am a health and work out freak, but I occasionally cheat. I am 5'8 so keep that in mind while you continue reading. I was always a tall skinny blonde until I hit the awkward age of 10. I was the girl who hit puberty before anyone and had size B boobs in the fourth grade with hips to match. I remember going back to school shopping in the fourth grade and buying size 5 shorts (juniors). What 8 year old do you know wearing size 5 clothes?! Well then the teen year hit...BAM I WAS FAT! Due to my hellacious hormones I was covered in acne at 12 and my skin started scaring. So what the doctor do? He put me on the PILL! I gained sooooo much weight and by the time 8th grade arrived I was weighing in the 160s. This was a rough year emotionally and physically. My boobs were huge and I received the nickname Captain Double Ds. Yeah not cool! Also I had a terrible self image because all my friends were 0s and 2s. I skipped those sizes. My mom noticed how discouraged I was and took me off the pill and hooked me up with one of my role models, Hope. Hope was a BA trainer! She is seriously the hottest older lady I know. I remember my first time meeting her and she made me weigh...174lbs. I burst into tears. I was in a dark place. This was it. I made the decision to change my life and do this for nobody but myself. That was in 2005 and I continued training with Hope for another 4 years until I started college. During those four years I dealt with a sluggish metabolism, a border line thyroid, and skinny friends who didn't count calories or wake up at 7am to do cardio. This was a rough 4 years but I lost 30lbs and I loved the way I looked and I loved being healthy, but I wanted more. I tried Weight Watchers and weighed around 139lbs.  I was skinny, but then one of those rough depression patches hit (probably over some dumb boy) and I gained every bit of it back. I started back to college weighing in at 158lbs. 158lbs is not cute when there are thousands of skinny girls walking around. So I tried Atkins. It worked and I lost 10lbs but that diet sucked! Then this past year I decided that I am happy with myself but I know I can look better. So I ordered the PINK METHOD with my Christmas money and I am the thinnest, healthiest, and happiest I ever been. I now weigh 136lbs and that bagel thing is almost gone! After all of this I have realized that dieting is a way of life for some people. So accept it! That hot dress is worth it when you put it on and you look SEXY! I am PROUD OF MYSELF! I have  come so far. My point of this blog is to stand up for that curvy girl who has never worn single digit size jeans, the girl who wants to be the one who is getting all the attention from the boys, the girl who wants to feel better about her appearance, the girl who wants to love herself. I was her. Now I want to help you.
P.S. I didn't get fat from drinking too much beer! I got fat from a sucky metabolism and eating Pop Tarts. My fabulous microwavable recipes, smoothies, and everyday realistic guide to looking hot is coming up so stay tuned!
